Quick Start Guide

How to Use the App

0
Pull Your Shot
Brew a real espresso at your machine first. Follow the step 0 checklist at the top of this page: warm up, weigh, grind, WDT, tamp level, pull to a 1:2 ratio on a scale, then stir and taste.
1
Set Your Parameters
Enter the real numbers from that shot - dose, yield, extraction time, grind setting and temperature - on the sliders in the left panel.
2
Rate the Taste
Use the taste panel to select the descriptors that match your shot - sour, bitter, fruity, watery and so on - along with how intense each one is.
3
Read the Suggestions
Ask for recommendations and the app tells you exactly what to change next - grind size, ratio, temperature - and why it will make the shot better. Change one thing, then pull again.
Step 0, in real life

Why the Shot You Pull Matters More Than the Numbers You Enter

This tool corrects the recipe: grind, ratio, time and temperature. It cannot see your puck. If the dose was uneven, the grounds were clumpy or the tamp was tilted, water rushes through the weakest part of the coffee bed - that is channeling - and the same shot tastes sour and bitter at once. Grinding finer will not fix that. It is a preparation problem, and it has to be solved at the machine.

That is why the workflow comes first. Pull every shot the same way - same warm-up, same weighed dose, same WDT and level tamp, stopped on the scale by weight - and the only thing that changes between two shots is the one variable you chose to change. That is when the corrections here become reliable. If you saw spurts or a lopsided stream, open Show all settings and set Distribution to Uneven so the analysis accounts for it.
