These terms explain what Dial Your Shot provides, what users can expect, and what kinds of behaviour are not allowed. The service is educational, account sign-in is optional for the dialing tool and the game, and saved presets, coffee bags, and game progress are stored only to support the features you choose to use.
Tamp Talk, the community space, is public: what you post there can be read by anyone and must follow the community rules in section 7a.
By accessing or using Dial Your Shot (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Dial Your Shot is operated by PiroTechnique. References to "we", "us", and "our" in these terms refer to the operator of the Service.
Dial Your Shot is a browser-based espresso guidance tool. The Service includes the espresso dialing tool, the Espresso Compass, the Dial It In training game, and a gear recommendations page. It provides educational and informational suggestions based on user inputs. It is not professional, technical, safety, medical, or commercial advice, and it does not guarantee any particular brewing, taste, or equipment outcome.
The Service also includes Coffee Theory, a collection of educational articles about espresso science, brewing technique, and related topics. These articles are informational only and are subject to the same disclaimer: they do not constitute professional advice of any kind.
The game uses simplified simulations of espresso extraction, machines, and equipment wear. Simulated timings, such as how quickly virtual burrs wear or when a virtual group head needs backflushing, are compressed for gameplay and are not maintenance instructions. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your own equipment.
The Service also includes Tamp Talk, a community space where users share shots, start discussions and comment on Coffee Theory articles, and shareable result cards for the game. Content posted by other users is theirs; we do not review it in advance and do not endorse it. The rules for Tamp Talk are in section 7a.
The Service offers optional sign-in via Google. By signing in, you create an account that allows you to save espresso presets, track coffee bags and their recipes, and play Dial It In with saved scores and progress.
You are responsible for the accuracy of any username you choose. Usernames must be at least 2 characters and may not impersonate another person or contain offensive content. We reserve the right to remove or modify usernames that violate these requirements. The same applies to names you give your coffee bags; please do not put personal information in them.
You may delete your account at any time from your Profile page. Account deletion permanently and irreversibly removes your user record, all saved presets, all coffee bags and their recipes, all game progress (career completions, daily challenge entries, streaks, Weekend Gauntlet runs, Defect Codex progress, achievements, and virtual equipment state), and all leaderboard entries from our servers. This action cannot be undone.
You may also use the Service without creating an account. Guests can use the espresso dialing tool, the Espresso Compass, Coffee Theory, and Dial It In, but cannot save presets, coffee bags, or game progress to the server and do not appear on leaderboards.
Usernames are 2 to 30 characters long, may use letters, numbers, dots, dashes and underscores (no spaces), and must be unique regardless of letter case. Your username is shown publicly on leaderboards, next to everything you post in Tamp Talk, on your public profile page, and on result cards you share. Guests can read Tamp Talk but cannot post, vote or report. When you delete your account, your Tamp Talk posts stay visible without your username, as described in section 7a; your votes, notifications and result cards are deleted.
When you save a preset, the espresso parameters you entered (dose, yield, extraction time, temperature, pressure, pre-infusion, roast level, bean freshness, grind distribution, and grind size settings) are stored on our servers and associated with your account.
When you start a coffee bag, the name you give it and a starting recipe are stored. When you mark a shot as good ("This one's good"), the current parameters replace that bag's recipe. Starting a new bag archives the previous one, which stays in your account as history.
You retain ownership of the data you submit. By saving presets and coffee bags, you grant us the right to store and retrieve that data on your behalf for the purpose of providing the Service. We do not use this data for any purpose other than delivering the Service to you.
You may use the Service for personal and lawful purposes only. You must not:
The Service includes Dial It In, a free browser-based espresso training game. Anyone can play it without an account; a Google sign-in is needed to save progress, scores, and streaks and to appear on leaderboards. The following rules apply when using the game:
Tamp Talk is the community space of the Service, where signed-in users can share shots from the dialing tool and discuss them. Anyone can read it; posting, replying, voting and reporting require a Google sign-in and a username.
Unless otherwise stated, the Service - including its design, text, branding, software, graphics, game content, the Espresso Compass, original content, and all Coffee Theory blog articles - is owned by or licensed to PiroTechnique and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may share or quote brief excerpts from blog articles with attribution; reproduction of full articles without permission is not permitted.
Content you post in Tamp Talk remains yours; section 7a describes the licence you grant us to display it.
The Service uses Google Sign-In for authentication. Use of Google Sign-In is subject to Google's Terms of Service. The Service may also load or link to other third-party services, including Google Fonts, analytics, and external sites such as Amazon and Ko-fi. We are not responsible for the content, availability, or practices of third-party services.
The Gear Recommendations page contains affiliate links to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. If you buy through these links, we may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Purchases are made directly with the retailer, under the retailer's own terms, prices, and availability; we are not a party to those transactions and do not guarantee the products listed.
You may choose to leave a voluntary tip through Ko-fi. Tips are processed by Ko-fi under its own terms, are not payment for any product or feature, and do not unlock any part of the Service.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We do not guarantee that the Service will always be available, error-free, or compatible with every device, browser, or network configuration.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, or reliability.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, profits, goodwill, or business opportunity arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including mandatory consumer rights where such rights apply.
We may suspend or restrict access to the Service if we reasonably believe these terms are being violated or if necessary to protect the Service, users, or third parties. You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it from your Profile page.
In Tamp Talk, moderators may also hide posts, lock threads, move them between categories, or suspend posting for an account that breaks the rules in section 7a.
These terms are governed by the laws applicable in the operator's place of residence, excluding conflict-of-law rules, subject to any mandatory consumer protection laws that may apply in your jurisdiction. Before starting formal proceedings, you agree to first contact us and attempt to resolve the issue informally.
We may update these terms from time to time. The updated version becomes effective when posted on this page. The "Last updated" date shows when the latest revision was made.
These terms are written in English. We may offer translations into other languages for your convenience, but the English version is the authoritative text. If there is any conflict or inconsistency between the English version and a translation, the English version prevails.
